Roundup Linked to Cancer
As of July 2018, hundreds of lawsuits that alleged Roundup weed killer was the cause of their non-Hodgkin's lymphoma were cleared by a federal judge to move forward with litigation. The lawsuits claim that Monsanto–known worldwide as a chemical giant and the originator of the term "GMO"–was aware of the cancer risk posed by their product but did not act on the knowledge, leading to their consumers acquiring cancer. Glyphosate–the weed killer found in Roundup–is primarily to blame for the hundreds of cancer diagnoses and wrongful deaths that followed.
Roundup in the News
Dewayne Johnson sought around $400 million in punitive damages and $39 million in compensatory damages from Monsanto, the victim's attorney Timothy Litzenburg told news sources after his client was awarded $289,000,000 in damages in what was one of many financially successful outcomes victims have seen after bringing lawsuits against agricultural giant Monsanto.
Mr. Johnson's claims that he was diagnosed with terminal cancer were heard by a judge and jury, who saw to it that justice was served on his behalf. Although Mr. Johnson now suffers from terminal cancer because of Monsanto's failure to ensure the safety of those in farming community, his family will be provided for financially.
It was first reported by CNN last year that over 800 patients were bringing legal actions against Monsanto–all of them claimed Roundup was the cause of their non-Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnoses
